Quarterback Justin Hebert has thrown for 3,870 yards this season with 23 touchdowns and only three interceptions, but he's been sacked 41 times. Last week against the Raiders he was 28 of 36 passing for 346 yards with two touchdowns and no picks and only one sack.

“I'm very proud of the way the team played, starting with the quarterback,” Jim Harbaugh said. “I'm not going to say unbelievable because I believe it and I see it every day. But there were throws that he was making ... that were like handoffs. They were right where you would put it if you were handing the ball off on a running play. Just incredible game by him.”

The Chargers have the 11th ranked defense in the league giving up 324.4 yards per game and have allowed 31 touchdowns this season.

Texans Preview

Will the real Houston Texans please stand up? After opening with a 5 - 1 record this season the Texans went 5 - 6 down the stretch to finish out the year with a 10 - 7 overall record.

C.J. Stroud started the game and went 6 for 6 for 50 yards and a touchdown before going to the bench to rest for the Chargers. Stroud has completed 63.2% of his passes this season for 3,717 yards and 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and he was sacked 52 times.

The Texans broke a two-game losing streak with the win over the Titans last Sunday. Head coach DeMeco Ryans said after the win “We’ve earned a right to play postseason football, which is always our goal and now we’re excited for whatever opportunity comes next."

The Texans have the 6th best defense in the league giving up 315 yards per game and 42 touchdowns on the season.

Houston is ranked 18th in the ESPN NFL Power Index 2024.

How I Used Rithmm Models for Chargers vs Texans AI Prediction

The Chargers have been playing much better football, in spite of it being uneven play, than the Texans of late as Houston is basically limping into the playoffs without Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.

When I look at my Rithmm models I come away with some apprehension as the models see the spread being solidly on the Texans covering the +3. So I went looking at my totals models and, while there was less agreement on this one, two of the models were on the under.

The current bet splits for this game sit at 67% of the money leaning heavily to the over. But when you dig deeper into this line, you'll see that this line continues to come down very slowly in spite of the money being so heavy to the over.

The Texans have been struggling for weeks and the Chargers seem to be a little bit all over the place depending on which team takes the field that day. I'll be banking on the Texans defense keeping the Chargers in check while their offense sputters again.

I'll be taking the under 42.5 in this one.
