Eagles vs Falcons: NFL Predictions - MNF

Welcome to Week 2 of Monday Night Football! This week, the Falcons visit Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, to take on the Eagles in a matchup that will not feature Eagles' star WR A.J. Brown.

The Eagles had an up-and-down Week 1 in their opener against the Green Bay Packers, where they came out with the win but showed that there are still some holes in their repaired defensive unit. Notably, the changes made to the defensive secondary showed up this game, as rookie first rounder Quinyon Mitchell made some nice plays.

On the offensive side of the ball, it was all new arrival RB Saquon Barkley, and he's going to be the focal point once again in this game with Brown on the sidelines. Barkley had three touchdowns in his Eagles debut, and will look to get on the board again versus a Falcons' defense that has been leaky plenty over the past couple seasons.

The Falcons are a brand-new team here. With QB Kirk Cousins joining the team but coming off of Achilles reconstruction surgery, the Falcons are stuck a little bit. Week 1 showed that Cousins isn't quite mobile yet enough to freely move around the pocket, and that should be a major focus for the Eagles to key in on in this game.

They should also be focused on Bijan Robinson. The very talented running back saw nearly all of the touches in Week 1 and is a major threat to an Eagles' defense that allowed the highest Explosive Rush Rate in Brazil and should look to take that facet of the Falcons' offense away.

The model has been doing well! Hitting on the Under on Thursday Night and now the Bears spread on Sunday night has us firing full tilt at the Eagles for this game. Some will look at the absence of AJ Brown and wonder why the Eagles are favored, but I think the real matchup is the Eagles' front seven defensive front versus a Falcons' offensive line that allowed two sacks and seven QB hits on Cousins in Week 1.

The Eagles were able to find pressure against Jordan Love and the Packers, and I think they are a cinch to do it again here. The Falcons simply don't have the offensive firepower right now, from what we saw, to get back in this game if they go down early, so I think the Eagles' game plan should be to get the ball in the hands of Barkley, target DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert across the middle of the field, and then blitz this offensive line so that Cousins can't adjust.

This probably won't be the vertical Eagles offense that we're used to seeing, but they are equipped to steadily move the ball down the field with Smith, Goedert and the newly-acquired Jahan Dotson.
