St. Jude Championship Round 3 AI Caddie Pick
Akshay Bhatia to Birdie or Better Hole 4 (+350)
We're going away from the Par 5 for Round 3 (thanks Schauffele for ruining the confidence there by making your first par on a Par 5 in what feels like multiple tournaments), but we're going to fire on this Par 3 bet for Akshay Bhatia.
The Par 3 4th has been in the medium range of hole difficulty through two rounds, ranking as the 9th hardest hole. However, it's definitely scoreable, and Bhatia birdied it in Round 2 and parred it on Thursday.
Our Rithmm AI Caddie gives him a 29% chance to birdie versus a 22% implied odds, so let's have some fun here!
St. Jude Championship Round 3 Best Bet
Matchup: Sam Burns > Hideki Matsuyama (+110)
Something happen to Hideki Matsuyama between Rounds 2 and 3. Not sure what it is, but for him to go from 13th in Round 2 Scoring Average with 69.06 to 70.7 in Round 3, almost two shots worse and ranking 134th on the tour this year means something's up.
In addition to that, Burns has been one of the best on Tour in Round 3 Scoring Average, ranking 10th with 68.47, so he's already zooming ahead there on paper.
Both Burns and Matsuyama have played terrifically this week. They're two of the top three players on the leaderboard right now and both have gained multiple strokes putting, on approach and tee to green.
However, Sam has played just a tiny bit better, with ore strokes gained T2G and on approach, while gaining nearly a stroke less with the flatstick. Simply put, he's doing more with less, and that's with his driving accuracy at 50%.
He gained the most strokes in the field on approach in Round 2 by over half a stroke and could play exceptionally well. I'm backing him here.
