Phoenix welcomes Indiana on Sunday in a mid-afternoon affair. The Mercury are coming off a blowout win over the short-handed Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night while the Fever roll into town after a disappointing loss in Seattle Thursday night.

This matchup will include three of arguably the most well-known women's college basketball players. Caitlin Clark for the Fever, Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner for the Mercury. All three athletes captivated the country while in college.

Over the last ten games in this series, the Mercury have dominated winning eight of ten with Phoenix covering the number in seven of those wins. These teams are five and five to the over.

Indiana Fever Preview

Indiana is in the midst of a five-game road trip. They are sitting at 1-2, with a win at Atlanta but loses in Chicago and Seattle.

Last timeout on Thursday Indiana fell by the score of 89-77 in Seattle. Caitlin Clark paced the Fever, scoring 15 points, dishing out 7 dimes, and grabbing six boards. Statistically, Indiana had a decent game. They shot 44.6 percent from the field and made eight three-pointers while shooting 42 percent from behind the arc. They also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Storm 44-27. But Indiana could not hold onto the ball. They committed 22 turnovers leading to 27 points for the Storm.

Indiana currently sits middle of the pack on scoring, putting up around 80 points a game. But over their last five, they are scoring around 86 points. Defensively Indiana is dead last in giving up around 87 points a game.  Over their last five, they have had a slight improvement in holding teams to 84 points.

Phoenix Mercury Preview

The Mercury are on the second leg of a three-game homestand. On Friday night, they defeated the shorthanded LA Sparks by the score of 92-78. The Sparks were up at half 45-44 before the Mercury pulled away with a dominant second-half performance.

Kahleah Copper led the Mercury in scoring, recording 24 points. Copper leads the team in scoring, averaging just under 23 points a game. Copper isn’t the only one on the Mercury averaging double digits.

Brittney Griner (19.3 PPG), Diana Taurasi (16.5 PPG), and Natasha Cloud (10.9 PPG) join Copper as double-digit scorers.

Phoenix scores around 81 points a game while surrendering 85 points. Over their last five games, they have been scoring right at their season average while surrendering 87 points a game.

• Indiana last five games, average game score is 170.8
• Mercury 7-3 ATS L10
• Mercury 4-6 to the over L10
• Mercury last five games, average game score of 172.4
• Last three times these two teams played the games have gone under

Let's look at the board currently the Mercury is favored by 7.5 points. I do not like laying that number. It's over two possessions and has hook potential. The total is set at 172.5. This seems way too high.

Neither team has had a total set that high this season. Look at the stats and see both teams are not great defensively but can score. Seems like an over play. However, as someone who watches both these teams often, I know that the game inside the game is the key.

Natasha Cloud is a fierce defender who will draw the assignment of Caitlin Clark. Unless Clark can get Cloud into foul trouble, I believe it will be a long day for her.

Aliyah Boston, the Fever’s third-leading scorer,  has shown a propensity to struggle over her short career against the Mercury. Boston only averaged five points a game last season against Phoenix.

I think this game will go under. 172.5 seems too high and I do not think Indiana offensively will have a successful day.
