The Jets have played once before in London, losing to Atlanta in 2021 and this will be the Vikings third trip abroad, having won all three trips with the last being a win over the Saints in 2022.

Jets Preview

The New York Jets are currently 2 - 2 on the season and looking to bounce back from a close 10 - 9 loss at home last week to the Denver Broncos. The Jets struggled offensively against the Broncos, who lead the league in blitz rate at 49.7%, as they blitzed continuously, hitting quarterback Aaron Rodgers 14 times including five sacks. By comparison, the Jets offense only allowed 12 hits and 5 sacks through the first three games.

Rodgers admits he was pretty banged up last week and was limited in practice on Wednesday with a sore knee, and while still listed as questionable, head coach Robert Saleh said he's "not concerned" about his availability this week in London. If the Jets front line can give him any sort of protection, Rodgers will be lining up against the 32nd ranked pass defense in the Vikings (274.3 yds per game) and has the firepower to light them up. This season he has thrown for 849 yards on 82 of 128 passing (64.1%), five touchdowns and one interception.

Last week Rodgers completed 24 of 42 passes for 225 yards and will look to exploit that Vikings secondary as he throws to wide out Allen Lazard who has 206 yards receiving with 16 receptions and three touchdowns and Garrett Wilson who's caught 20 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively the Jets played very well last week holding the Broncos to only one drive of more than 41 yards and keeping it close, only to see the offense fritter it away.  They've had a solid pass rush, compiling 14 sacks on the season, but their secondary, while not allowing a lot of points (15.5 per game) aren't taking advantage of turnover opportunities having only one interception this season.

The Jets are ranked 16th in the ESPN NFL Power Rankings for week 5 of the 2024 season.

Vikings Preview

The Minnesota Vikings are only one of two teams who sit at 4 - 0 this season with the other being the Kansas City Chiefs. The Vikings are coming off of a 31 - 29 win against the Green Bay Packers last week and will look to continue their undefeated season as well as their undefeated London string of wins this week.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, who started 38 games for the Jets before stops in Carolina and San Francisco before landing in Minnesota, leads the league in touchdown passes with 11 and has a passer rating of 118.9 while going 73 for 106 in pass attempts (63%) with only three interceptions.

Darnold, who's looked like an All-Star in this Vikings scheme, has shown the love to wide out Justin Jefferson who has 20 catches for 358 yards and four touchdowns and averaging 89.5 yards per game as well as running back Aaron Jones who has 16 catches for 143 yards and one touchdown receiving while being a workhorse in the backfield with 64 carries for 321 yards (80.3 per game avg) and a touchdown.

Defensively the Vikings are ranked 4th in points allowed and have 17 sacks on the season, with Jonathan Greenard and Pat Jones II having nine of those sacks, and are tied for first with eight interceptions on the season. This defense will have their hands full with Rodgers who is tied for the lowest interception percentage (1.4%) in NFL history.

The Vikings are ranked 2nd in the ESPN NFL Power Rankings for week 5 of the 2024 season.

How I Use Rithmm Models for my Jets vs Vikings AI Prediction

The numbers are quite interesting for this game as the opening line had the Jets favored -125 at DraftKings on 08/24 and then last Sunday the line flipped completely, putting the Vikings as the fav at -142. That line has moved up a bit and is currently sitting at -148 at the time of this writing.

There wasn't much digging here for me. I think the Vikings have a solid defense, are playing good ball and Darnold is looking like the quarterback the Jets wanted when he played for them. And really the only thing the Jets have going for them is the football equivalent of Mr. October in Aaron Rodgers. If the Jets front line can give him even a modicum of protection this week, Rodgers could pick the Vikings last ranked pass defense apart quickly. But if the Vikings blitz, and they will, and the Jets stop them at roughly the same rate they stopped the Broncos, then this will only spell disaster for an already banged up Rodgers.

The bet splits are heavy to the Vikings here at 75% and the line continues to move towards the Vikings slowly. And while my Rithmm models are a little mixed it shows a 60.1% win probability. And the Rithmm community that uses the app also agrees to the tune of 60.9%.
