John Deere Classic 2024: Round 2 Best Bets & AI Caddie Pick
Table of Contents
Fresh off of some of the best events of the 2024 PGA Tour season that were mostly dominated by Scottie Scheffler, we return to a classic layout: Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Morgage Classic. Round 1 had a bunch of low scoring, with the course playing more than a stroke under par.
Akshay Bhatia leads at 8 under, and he's truly playing some excellent golf lately. There is no golfer on the Tour since January 1 that has played as many rounds as Bhatia and gained more strokes than him, and he just fired his third 64 in his past five rounds.
There's plenty of golf to be played, though, and plenty of bets to make.
Following every round, we’ll be going through my favorite AI golf picks for the following round, as well as the Rithmm-backed AI Caddie hole score picks I’m rolling with. Let’s get into Round 2!

John Deere Classic Round 2 AI Caddie Pick
Adam Schenk to Par Hole 2 (+150)
It's not often that we're rooting for Par on a Par 5, but chenk has just not been great on Par 5s lately.
Over the past six months, Schenk ranks 92nd IN THIS FIELD in Par 5 Birdie or Better scoring. If we push that out to all qualified golfers this season, Schenk ranks 212th!
Despite the ease of this hole and the fact that he birdied it yesterday, Schenk might jus not be able to push through here. Now, Rithmm only gives him a 53% chance to make birdie versus 50% for the field, but his likelihood to make par is also up there, so don't think of this as a birdie lock for Schenk.
John Deere Classic Round 2 Best Bet
Matchup Play: Keith Mitchell > Mark Hubbard (-130)
Mitchell had an off Round 1, starting slow with three bogeys in his first round. He has a habit of bouncing back, though, as he carries the third-best Round 2 Scoring Average on the PGA Tour this season at 68.5.
Funnily enough, Hubard also plays very well in his Round 2s, with a 68.7 scoring average that has him sitting at fourth-best.
I'm mostly looking at how these guys played in their opening rounds to solve this riddle, and I keep coming back to the fact that Mitchell is simply a better ballstriker right now.
Despite only hittin 43% of his fairways yesterday, Mitchell gained more strokes off the tee, on approach, ballstriking, and hit more greens in regulation than Hubbard did, and Hubbard had to rely on a hot putter to get moving.
Golf bettors know that the putter can only stay hot for so long, so go wit the consistent option in Mitchell here.
