Knicks Preview
The New York Knicks recently saw their four-game win streak come to an end with a surprising loss to the Detroit Pistons as heavy favorites. During their streak, they secured back-to-back wins over the Hornets, followed by victories against the Pelicans and Magic. Currently sitting 4th in the Eastern Conference behind Cleveland, Boston, and Orlando, the Knicks remain a serious contender. In their loss to Detroit, Jalen Brunson delivered a standout performance, recording a 31-point, 10-assist double-double, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
Brunson has been the heart of New York's offense, leading the team with 25.4 points and 7.7 assists per game. He’s also their top outside threat, averaging 2.6 made threes per game on an efficient 42.9% shooting from deep. Over his last three games, Brunson has scored 21 or more points each time. Karl-Anthony Towns has also been a major contributor, averaging 25.2 points per game while dominating the boards with 13.2 rebounds per contest — the second-highest mark in the league.
Towns is also a reliable shooter from beyond the arc, hitting 45.0% of his threes while making 2.3 per game. OG Anunoby has been a key two-way player, contributing 17.7 points per game while leading the team defensively with 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. Mikal Bridges, who led the Nets in scoring last season, has carved out a strong role with the Knicks, chipping in 16.7 points per game while providing valuable perimeter defense.
Josh Hart rounds out the starting lineup with 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while Miles McBride has been the most impactful bench contributor, averaging 11.1 points per game. As a team, the Knicks rank 11th in the NBA in made threes per game (14.3) but have struggled to defend the arc, allowing 14.1 threes per game (23rd in the league). Their pace of play is also a notable factor, as they rank dead last in possessions per game, favoring a slower, methodical style of play.
Raptors Preview
The Toronto Raptors wrap up a five-game homestand with a matchup against the New York Knicks. So far, they've split the first four games, securing wins against the Heat and Pacers but falling to the Thunder and Mavericks in their last two outings. Toronto currently sits 12th in the Eastern Conference, three games behind the final playoff spot. In their most recent game against Dallas, the Raptors were led by Gradey Dick, who dropped 27 points in the loss.
Dick has been a bright spot for Toronto, steadily improving in his second season out of Kansas. He’s now a starter, averaging 18.4 points per game and serving as the team’s top outside shooter with 2.6 made threes per game on 35.3% shooting from deep. The team’s leading scorer, however, is former Knick RJ Barrett, who averages 23.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. Barrett has been relatively quiet in the last two losses, scoring under 20 points in both contests, and the Raptors will need him to regain form against his former team.
Scottie Barnes is another key contributor, adding 21.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game. Barnes recently erupted for 35 points in a win over the Pacers and remains a crucial piece of Toronto’s versatile frontcourt. Joining him in the paint is center Jakob Poeltl, an underrated big man averaging 16.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. His size and rebounding presence provide the Raptors with a much-needed interior advantage.
Ochai Agbaji has recently been inserted into the starting lineup, contributing 11.4 points per game as a perimeter threat. Off the bench, Kelly Olynyk has returned from injury and provides a scoring spark in reserve minutes. Despite their individual talent, the Raptors have struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc. They rank 29th in the NBA in made threes per game (11.2) and give up 13.4 made threes per game on defense, ranking 13th in that category. Toronto plays at a fast pace, ranking 5th in possessions per game, but their lack of outside shooting has hindered their overall offensive efficiency.
My Knicks vs Raptors AI Prediction
The Raptors have not been one of the best teams in the NBA, but they have been one of the best teams against the spread. Toronto is tied for 2nd in the NBA with a 16-8 ATS record, and the lineup is finally getting healthy. Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick both missed multiple games, and Kelly Olynyk is just being reintroduced to the lineup. Toronto has Barnes and Barrett as scorers on the wing, and Poeltl is a strong post player who is averaging a double-double on the season. Toronto has been home for five straight games, and picked up strong wins against the Heat and the Pacers during the stand. The Knicks just fell to the Pistons at home, and now have to head North where they will not be able to cover the spread. The Raptors have been excellent against the spread, and have most of their top talent healthy for this one.
