LIV Golf UK 2024: Course Preview & Rithmm Best Bets

The LIV Golf tour comes off of a break after playing  the LIV Golf Andalucia tournament two weeks ago. The tour resumes at the JCB Golf & Country Club in Rocester, Staffordshire, England this weekend. This is the first time LIV will be playing at the JCB course as the begin a multi-year partnership. JCB is one of the world's leading equipment manufacturers and built the course next to their manufacturing facility.

Let's jump into my 2024 LIV Golf UK course preview and best bets provided by my Rithmm App.

2024 LIV Golf UK by JCB

Moving back to the UK, the LIV tour returns this week for the 11th event of the season in Staffordshire to play at the JCB course. This will be the only time in 2024 that LIV plays in the United Kingdom. Last year the event was held at the Centurian but a multi-year agreement has moved the tournament to the JCB Golf and Country Club for the first time.

The format at the LIV Golf UK 2024 consists of 54 players and two wild-card players, Anthony Kim and Hudson Swafford, who will both compete as unassigned individuals. The team assigned players compete in two competitions simultaneously, an individual event and a team event.

Each stroke will count in the individual event and only combined scores of the team's top three players count in the team event for rounds 1 and 2, with all four scores counting in the final round of each event. Each event is played over 54 holes and there are no cuts.

Rithmm Models used for 2024 LIV Golf UK Course Preview

All courses have their unique challenges and the JCB course is no different. The course itself is a par-72, 7308 yard course and the difficulty abounds. The 17th hole, a 255 yard par-3, sits on an island and will be a real test as the teams come down the stretch while the 18th hole features four large bunkers and a three tier putting surface.

Using my custom sports betting models, I'm able to adjust my preferences based on the course or I can let Rithmm build me a model that suits that particular course perfectly.

This model gave the Par 3 Performance a higher preference over the other Performance metrics and also chose to give more preference to Course Fit as well. Looking deeper into this choice, the model evaluated a golfer's ability to capitalize on Par 3s. In addition to Performance, it also looked at differentiating between a player that makes all pars versus a player that makes a lot of birdies while also making a lot of double bogeys.

I also like the idea that on a course with only four par-5s, the model chose to make the par-5 the fourth least important in the model.

The LIV Golf UK 2024 Course at JCB is also set up quite a bit differently than a lot of the other courses being played. As I said above, there's only four par-5 holes, three of them over 600 yards, and there are 10 par-4 holes ranging from 322 yards up to 516 yards.

Best Betting Picks for the 2024 LIV Golf UK by JCB Course

Looking over our Rithmm betting options for this tournament, let's take a look at the favorite picks and best bets based on the above model and how this fares with my thoughts.

Top 20: Paul Casey -160  (73.8% Rithmm Win Probability)

Casey is currently 13th on the LIV tour finishing consistently in the top-20, finishing there in seven out of 10 matches this season. With a 73.8% Win Probability and seven top-20 finishes already this year, this is not a hard best bet to get behind.

Top 10: David Puig +400 (29.9%)

Puig has been playing Top-40 golf all season, finishing third in Houston three weeks ago. While he's played much better outside of the LIV league, his league play has been steady. The models like the short par-3 and par-4 game and have him placed as our pick for the Top 10.

Top 5: Matthew Wolff +750 (17.8%)

Wolff finished 17th two weeks ago in Andalucia and is currently 19th in the league. He already has two top-5 finishes this season and looks poised to vie for another one this week. The model backtested nicely and Wolff seems a solid choice for a top-5 finish.

Outright Winner Pick for the LIV Golf UK by JCB: Carlos Ortiz +2000 (7.8%)

Ortiz won three weeks ago in Houston and has had a solid 2024 season with three top-10 finishes including finishing ninth in Houston. His team play has been solid as well as the Gleeks GC is currently 8th in th league with a win, tie for 2nd place and two ties for 6th in their last four matches. Expect Ortiz to play well again and let's see if he can bring us home a big win.

Final Thoughts on 2024 LIV Golf UK by JCB

With this being the first time the league will play on this course, we'll have to wait and see how this shakes out, but scoring conditions should be easy with good weather expected, the course is not overly long and landing areas off of the tee are not too tough. This could be a shoot out and I think the models are taking note of that.
