Memorial Tournament 2024: Round 4 Best Bets & AI Caddie Picks

June 9, 2024

Table of Contents

Another day at Muirfield Village, another round of carnage and high scores.

Scottie Scheffler managed to maintain his lead, and even increased it to four by the end of the round, but he had plenty of close calls along the way. Running behind him are Collin Morikawa, Sepp Straka, and Adam Hadwin, all at -6.

Stars like Viktor Hovland, Keegan Bradley, and Rory McIlroy all fell back today and have massive uphill climbs in the final round if they want to have a shot at shaking Jack Nicklaus’ hand first on the 18th green.

Following every round, we’ll be going through my favorite AI golf picks for the following round, as well as the Rithmm-backed AI Caddie hole score picks I’m rolling with. Let’s get into Round 4!

Memorial Tournament Round 4 AI Caddie Pick

Hideki Matsuyama to Bogey or Worse Hole 4 (+390)

We've gone birdie or better on our choices on these the past couple days, and it has definitely worked out well. Scheffler had zero issues with the hole location at 3 during Round 3, as he put it right under the hole, about eight feet away, and sunk the birdie putt to cash our +170 play.

Looking at Round 4, I want to take swings on guys having a difficult time with the pin locations, and the pin at 4 for the final round is TOUGH. You have to take on the left greenside bunker if you plan to take dead aim at this flag, and I'm not sure how many will, with the hole possibly topping out at 220 yards tomorrow.

Matsuyama has parred this hole all three day, but he has had to perform some solid scrambling in both rounds 2 and 3. If he gets into trouble and misses this green again, it will be exponentially more difficult for him to be able to get up and down.

You're getting solid value at +390 here. Our Rithmm AI Caddie tool projects that Matsuyama has a 31% chance of bogeying this hole, but he also has an 8% less chance of parring it versus the field as well. I think he could be very volatile on a hole like this, so I'm taking a swing that he struggles.

Memorial Tournament Round 4 Best Bet

Matchup Play: Austin Eckroat > Thomas Detry (-110)

Our last play for this week is a nice, solid matchup for Eckroat here. Despite currently sitting at +3, the 2024 Cognizant Classic winner has had a solid week at Muirfield Village.

Eckroat has averaged 1.01 Strokes Gained: Approach so far through three rounds, and he’s also hit 69% of his fairways, a high number for the tough Ohio course. Detry, on the other hand, has struggled at times, only connecting with 57% of the fairways.

Both players arguably played their best round in Round 3, but Eckroat ran better in almost every category except Off the Tee. Despite that, Eckroat hit 71% of his fairways on Saturday compared to 50% for Detry.

Both golfers rank average-below average in Round 4 Scoring average, averaging just under 71. While Detry is having a solid summer so far, I lean towards Eckroat with this play, given how he’s played across this week.
