Head Coach Johnathon Smith is in his first year with MSU but has plenty of experience playing the Ducks.

Smith played and coached for Oregon’s instate rival Oregon State. He defeated them twice as a Quarterback and twice as a head coach. Coach Smith’s experience against Oregon is a factor in my MSU vs #6 Oregon AI prediction. 

Sparty currently sits with a record of 3-2, 1-1 in conference. MSU has not had a cupcake schedule. They have already played Boston College, Maryland, and Ohio State. 

This will be the second week in a row they face a top-ten opponent. 

Coach Smith may have been a quarterback but his defense has been impressive this year.

• 30th nationally in total defense 
• 39th nationally in scoring defense at 19 ppg

Oregon 

Oregon is known for prolific offensive attacks but has started slow for their standards. Last year the Ducks averaged a whopping 44.2 points per game versus this year averaging 36 points a game. 

Things have started to turn around for the Ducks in the last three weeks as they have averaged 40 points a game. But they are not blowing out opponents like they did last year. 

Oregon had a point differential of 36 points a game last year compared to only 18 this year. This is a factor in my Michigan State vs Oregon AI-Prediction. 

It will be interesting to see how six-year senior QB Dillion Gabriel performs against a stout MSU defense, arguably the best defense he has faced this year.
