Mississippi Preview
The #21 Ole Miss Rebels will take their 14 - 2 (3 - 0 SEC) record to Tuscaloosa tonight to take on SEC foe Alabama. The Rebels have won three in a row including a win last Saturday against LSU 77 - 65.
Forward Malik Dia put in 19 points with seven rebounds and an assist to lead the Rebels along with Jaemyn Brakefield who added 16 points, five rebounds and two assists. Dia also scored 21 points with eight rebounds against Arkansas two games ago.
Guard Sean Pedulla leads Ole Miss with 14.1 points per game and adds 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Mississippi is currently ranked 23rd in the KenPom ratings and 26th in the ESPN Men's College Basketball Power Index 2024-25.
Alabama Preview
The #4 ranked Crimson Tide enter tonight's game with a 14 - 2 (3 - 0 SEC) record and have won eight straight games including a win on Saturday against Texas A&M 94 - 88.
Senior guard Mark Sears had 27 points, two rebounds and four assists in the win and became only the second Alabama player with 1,500 points, 300 assists and 200 3-pointers in a career.
Guard Aden Holloway added 15 points with a rebound and an assist and Grant Nelson, who leads the team in rebounds with 8.6 per game and blocks with 1.3 per game, added six points and eight rebounds against the Aggies.
Alabama is currently ranked 8th in the KenPom ratings and 6th in the ESPN Men's College Basketball Power Index 2024-25.
Models for my Ole Miss vs Alabama AI Prediction
Alabama has been playing lights out basketball behind Mark Sears this season and there's no reason to think they can't put up another W at home tonight against the Rebels. But an interesting thing happened on the way to my Rithmm app.
Ole Miss, who is currently a +12 dog, had all three of my models in agreement including this one above with a near 60% win probability. KenPom has Alabama ranked as the 2nd best offensive team in the nation (125.3) but they are only 38th in defensive rating (97.3) while Mississippi is only ranked 31st (117.2) in offensive rating, their defense is ranked 21st (95.4). KenPom also has Alabama as a -8.0 favorite tonight.
What does that all mean? It means that we've taken the time to look at a lot of different metrics to see how this will shake out, and our Rithmm model has given us the agreement we're looking for. This is a solid model for me with a 54.2% win rate and the model has a 59.5% win probability with a recommendation.
That's about all I need to see here - I'll be taking Ole Miss and the points +12.
