The Mustangs will open their 2024 season with a Week 0 trip to Nevada to take on the Wolf Pack. Preston Stone returns to lead the team again this season after a leg injury that ended his 2023 campaign early. The Wolf Pack come into a new Mountain West season under first year head coach Jeff Choate, who is the 2nd new coach in three seasons for Nevada. The Wolf Pack finished last season 2 - 10 overall for the 2nd year in a row and 2 - 6 in conference, tied for last place with New Mexico and San Diego St.

Nevada finished 127th overall in offensive yards per game averaging 300. They were 113th in overall passing yards per game at 175.2 and 100th overall in rushing yards per game with 124.8.
