Preview of SMU vs Nevada AI Prediction
The SMU Mustangs and Nevada Wolf Pack will meet Saturday August 24th at Mackay Stadium in Reno, NY at 8:00 PM EDT. The game can be seen on the CBS Sports Network.
SMU Preview
SMU finished last season first in the AAC with an 11 - 3 overall record and went 9 - 0 in conference play and ended their season with a 23 - 14 loss to Boston College in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in Boston. The Mustangs have since left the AAC Conference for greener pastures as they make their debut in the ACC Conference.
The Mustangs will open their 2024 season with a Week 0 trip to Nevada to take on the Wolf Pack. Preston Stone returns to lead the team again this season after a leg injury that ended his 2023 campaign early. Stone seems healthy and set to take on the ACC Conference after throwing 28 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions last season.
This Nevada defense should be no match for a potent SMU offense that finished last season 16th in the nation in total yards per game averaging 454.9, 23rd in passing yards per game with 278.4 and landing 40th in the nation in average rushing yards per game with 176.6.
Nevada Preview
The Wolf Pack come into a new Mountain West season under first year head coach Jeff Choate, who is the 2nd new coach in three seasons for Nevada. The Wolf Pack finished last season 2 - 10 overall for the 2nd year in a row and 2 - 6 in conference, tied for last place with New Mexico and San Diego St.
Nevada finished 127th overall in offensive yards per game averaging 300. They were 113th in overall passing yards per game at 175.2 and 100th overall in rushing yards per game with 124.8.
Let's see how the Rithmm models view this SMU Mustangs vs Nevada Wolf Pack AI Prediction as well as how it came together.
How I use Rithmm Models for Mustangs vs Wolfpack AI Prediction
As with the NBA, WNBA and golf, Rithmm has become my go-to App to help me find agreement on my various other metrics I use to decide how I want to bet a particular game. Both teams are beginning a new season and with Nevada having struggled on both offense and defense last season and SMU having a potent offense that looks primed to be even more productive this season, it's not hard to read the tea leaves here.
My Rithmm AI Custom Betting Models above show Nevada should cover the +25.5 spread. While SMU is not afraid to run up the score and, given that they are in a new conference, will want to show off in a big way for the old ACC crowd, it may be a bridge too far for SMU to be that dominant this early in the season.
My SMU vs Nevada AI Prediction
The line on this game had risen up to as high at -27.5 at some books, but over the last day it has fallen considerably and is now down to -25.5 even though the money is still heavily to the over. This is signaling sharp money being put on Nevada to cover.
I'll be taking Nevada +25.5 to cover this spread.
