Titans Preview
The Tennessee Titans limp into this weekend with a 1 - 5 record having lost two in a row including a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills 34 - 10. The Titans find themselves in last place in the AFC South, only a half game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This Titans offense is nothing to write home about. They are 31st in overall offense with 259.2 yards per game and only 11 touchdowns. As of Friday afternoon after the last Titans practice, head coach Brian Callahan hadn't yet decided who will start this Sunday. "We kind of have a pretty good idea of where we're headed," Callahan said. "We'll be ready to play on Sunday with them. It's either (Levis) is starting or he's not. He'll be inactive if he's not starting." As of Wednesday, Callahan was still saying that Levis will probably need another week.
With that being said, the starter would be Mason Rudolph who threw for 212 yards on 25 of 40 passing with one touchdown and one interception with three sacks last week. Rudolph will be throwing to Calvin Ridley who had three receptions last week for 42 yards and Tyler Boyd who had 43 yards on five catches. Ridley missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a foot injury but did attend Friday's practice and should be ready for Sunday.
I'm not really sure there's much the Titans can do other than simply catch Detroit off guard to secure a win this week.
The Titans are ranked 29th in the ESPN NFL Power Rankings for week 8 of the 2024 season.
Lions Preview
Conversely, the Detroit Lions are playing Championship caliber football and enter this week 5 - 1 on the season and are riding a four game winning streak. The Lions are in first place in the NFC North a half game ahead of the Green Bay Packers and are coming off of an exciting game last week against the Vikings as they saw kicker Jake Bates put in a 44-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in the game to give them a 31 - 29 win.
Quarterback Jared Goff was an insanely efficient 22 of 25 for 280 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and it was his third straight game with a 140+ passer rating, putting him in elite company with Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner and Roger Staubach.
In spite of the rarefied air, head coach Dan Campbell put it simply, "He doesn't get frazzled. He's tough. He's competitive, and he's reliable."
The Lions are ranked 2nd in the league with 411.8 yards per game and 22 touchdowns and helping with those numbers last week was Jahmyr Gibbs who rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries and added another 44 yards on four receptions to close out the night.
The Titans are ranked 2nd in the ESPN NFL Power Rankings for week 8 of the 2024 season.
How I Use Rithmm Models for my Titans vs Lions AI Prediction
I reiterate that there should be no way the Lions lose this game. It has happened before and that's why they say "On any given Sunday."
But it shouldn't be this Sunday.
I went through all of my amazing Rithmm models looking for some compelling tidbits and I landed on this total. I found it interesting that not only did my models like the under here, the money on the under is a 60% bet split. This seems plausible, the Titans are not a juggernaut by any stretch, even though I'm not seeing this line move down at all with such heavy money.
But I'm willing to trust my models here and I'll be taking the Under 45.
So why stop there? We're into models and using those to help us determine if a bet is worthy or not - so here's a second model that is much more controversial but one that intrigued me a lot.
That's right kids, all three of my models are predicting that the Titans will cover this +11.5 spread. I mean, the money is huge for the Lions to cover this easily and yet the line hasn't moved all that much. It opened at -12.5 (DK) on Monday and had actually come down two full points before ticking back up to where it sits now.
I'm not a man who likes to part with my money, so this will only be a sprinkle, but I'm going to follow my models this week and put a little sprinkle on the Titans +11.5 as well as the under 45 mentioned above.
