US Open 2024: Round 3 Best Bets & AI Caddie Picks
Table of Contents
Pinehurst #2 showed its teeth today in Round 2 of the 2024 U.S. Open, but we won our Round 2 matchup play and almost scored on the AI Caddie pick as well!
The course played moderately easier, with the average score down 0.37 strokes at 2.89, but the lead was not stretched, as Ludvig Aberg posted a one-under 69 to finish with the 36-hole lead at -5. Heading into Round 3, we have plenty of bets to look at to make some major money.
Following every round, we’ll be going through my favorite AI golf picks for the following round, as well as the Rithmm-backed AI Caddie hole score picks I’m rolling with. Let’s get into Round 3!

US Open Round 3 AI Caddie Pick
Xander Schauffele to Birdie or Better Hole 3 (+230)
Our Rithmm AI Caddie model gives Schauffele a 34% chance to make a birdie on the third hole versus 25% for the rest of the field, and I am swinging on it.
Not only did Schauffele birdie this hole in Round 2, but he is also in his favorite spot: charging position on a Saturday. Xander tends to perform much better when he can make a push for the lead, and that's exactly what I think he does on Saturday.
Xander ranks tenth on Tour this season with a 68.4 average in Round 3s, and birdieing the gettable third hole is a great way to put himself in good position to do so.
US Open Round 3 Best Bet
Matchup Play: Francesco Molinari > Brooks Koepka (+260)
There should be a 'Warning: Parental Advisory' sign on this play; it's not for the faint of heart.
If you watched the TV coverage today, you probably noticed that Brooks Koepka was not enjoying himself. Fresh off a Round 1 that saw three bogeys coming in to ruin a perfect round, Koepka slightly ejected on Friday, shooting +5 on his inward nine holes to finish at five-over par for the U.S. Open.
Koepka has declined to do press conferences during this major, stating that he doesn't like the lack of creativity of some of the questions. All of this yells that maybe, he just doesn't want to be here right now?
Well, he made the cut on the number, so he's here through the weekend at least. That could be good news for Frankie Molinari, who also made the cut on the number, albeit a little differently. Molinari made the weekend by way of a hole-in-one at his ninth and final hole, the video of which you can see below.
Molinari has actually played decent this week. He's gained over a stroke on approach and putting, and he's also hit 71% of his fairways. In Round 2, Molinari struggled a bit with his approaches, but should pick back up over the weekend with this momentum.
This is less of a stats play and more of a vibes play, since it really seems that Koepka would rather be anywhere but grinding it out on this grueling golf course. I think Molinari is well-equipped to take advantage.
